If you are trying to work out what a Pembroke Welsh Corgi actually costs, the purchase price is only the first of several numbers. Here is an honest breakdown from a family breeder — what sits behind a puppy’s price, what you pay up front, and what the first year looks like after your puppy comes home.
Quick answer: what does a Corgi cost?
Corgi puppy prices vary a great deal between breeders, and they change from litter to litter — which is why we do not publish a single figure. Every puppy we have available is priced on that puppy’s own page, so you can see the exact number before you speak to anyone. You can see the Corgi puppies available now and their current prices at any time.
What we can tell you plainly is how the money works: a $600 deposit reserves a puppy. It is fully refundable for 48 hours, it is applied toward your puppy’s price rather than added to it, and it can be transferred to another puppy or an upcoming litter if your plans change.
Why Corgi prices vary so much between breeders
Two Corgi puppies advertised at very different prices are often genuinely different products. The things that move the number are mostly things you cannot see in a photograph:
- Health screening and genetic testing on the parents. Testing costs money before a single puppy is born. A breeder who skips it has a lower cost base — and passes the risk to you.
- Veterinary care before go-home day. An examination, a health certificate, age-appropriate vaccinations and a completed deworming protocol are all real costs carried by the breeder.
- Time spent with the litter. Early Neurological Stimulation, daily handling, and the beginnings of crate, potty and leash work take weeks of somebody’s attention.
- What is included. Microchip registration, registration papers, a starter kit, and a health guarantee are either in the price or they are not.
- Whether the breeder is still there afterwards. Support a year later costs nothing to advertise and something real to provide.
A cheaper puppy is not automatically a worse puppy. But a price well below everything else you have seen usually means one of the items above was left out, and those are the items that tend to show up later as a veterinary bill or a behaviour problem.
What is included in the price of our puppies
So you can compare like with like, here is what leaves with every River Ridge puppy at no extra cost:
- A veterinary examination and health certificate
- Age-appropriate vaccinations and a completed deworming protocol
- Microchip registration
- AKC registration papers
- A puppy starter kit and a blanket carrying the litter’s scent
- A 30-day Peace of Mind Health Guarantee plus a 2-year genetic health guarantee
- 30 days of complimentary Trupanion coverage, activated within 24 hours of pickup
- Health-screened and genetically tested parents you are welcome to meet
- Support from us for the life of your dog
When you are comparing breeders, it is worth asking each of them for this same list. The gap between two prices often disappears once you add back what one of them leaves out.
The costs that come after the puppy
The purchase price is the part families plan for. The ongoing cost is the part that catches people out, and it is worth thinking about honestly before you commit. For a Corgi, budget for:
- Food. A Corgi is a compact dog with a real appetite. Portion control matters more in this breed than in most — see our Corgi growth chart for why weight management is a lifelong job.
- Routine veterinary care. The remaining puppy vaccination series, an annual examination, parasite prevention, and spay or neuter. Your own veterinarian can quote these for your area.
- Pet insurance or a savings buffer. Your puppy leaves with 30 days of Trupanion coverage; after that it is your decision whether to continue it or self-insure.
- Grooming. Corgis shed heavily and year-round. Most families manage it at home with a good brush and a vacuum they do not resent, but it is not a low-maintenance coat.
- Training and equipment. A crate, a lead, toys that survive a herding breed, and ideally a puppy class.
We would rather you built that budget before you pay a deposit than discover it afterwards. A family who has thought it through is the family a puppy does best with.
Is a Corgi worth the price?
That depends entirely on whether the breed suits your household, not on the number. Corgis are bright, funny, intensely people-focused dogs that were bred to work — which means they want a job, they have opinions, and they will talk back. In the right home they are outstanding companions for twelve to fifteen years. In the wrong one, they are a bored herding dog in a house that did not expect one.
Our Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed guide covers temperament, shedding, exercise and training honestly, including the parts that put some families off. We would far rather you read it and decide a Corgi is not for you than buy one and find out later.
Frequently asked questions about Corgi cost
How much does a Corgi puppy cost?
Prices differ between breeders and between litters, so we publish each puppy’s price on that puppy’s own page rather than quoting a single figure that would go out of date. You can see the Corgi puppies available now, with their current prices, on our available puppies page.
How much is the deposit to reserve a Corgi puppy?
A $600 deposit reserves your puppy. It is fully refundable for 48 hours, it is applied toward your puppy’s price rather than charged on top, and it can be transferred to another puppy or an upcoming litter.
Why are some Corgi puppies so much cheaper?
Usually because something has been left out — health screening and genetic testing on the parents, veterinary care before go-home day, microchipping, registration, a health guarantee, or the weeks of daily handling that shape a puppy’s temperament. Ask any breeder for the full list of what is included and the prices become comparable.

Are Corgis expensive to keep?
They are a mid-sized dog with ordinary running costs — food, routine veterinary care, parasite prevention, and either insurance or a savings buffer. The two breed-specific things to plan for are weight management, because Corgis gain weight easily on a long back, and heavy year-round shedding.
Do you offer delivery, and does it cost extra?
We can talk through delivery or meeting partway for families travelling from further out, along with any additional cost for your specific location. Get in touch and we will give you a straight answer for where you are.
